Describe your relationship with water and how it shapes your life.
I have an incredibly strong relationship with water. Since the very beginning I’ve been around water sports. First I was a swimmer, then I found kayaking and ultimately I’ve found love for surfing and the sea. My whole life revolves about being around the river. It’s my happy place and where I try to spend the most time.

How many frequent flyer miles do you have?
Not many… I’ve put a stop to traveling non stop over the last few years. Couple well planned good trips a year and that’s it for me these days.

Describe the perfect rapid.
Big, powerful, must make moves. Perfectly styleable if done correctly, not deadly consequences if you screw the line.

What has been your worst swim?
I’ve had some incredibly powerful swims over the years. A 2 km swim on the Stikine, half minute downtime in Villalobos in Colombia and a 5 minute swim in Desague in 2009. Those have all been close calls and a huge learning for me.

Most nerve-racking portage?
Five friends and I dropped a 90 footer blind by accident. To this day it was one of the craziest things ever done in a kayak. 100% the most nerve-racking “portage” in my life.

If you could only paddle one river for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Impossible to name one, but it would definitely be big water style. These 4 rivers are my favorites – Futa, Baker, Stikine or Indus.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere. In nature, in athletes from other sports, in the people around me. There’s so much stuff to learn… I try to keep my eyes open and a flexible mind so I can learn a bit from everyone.
Have you ever been in a fist fight?
Not really, just a bit of boxing with gloves for fun.

What’s up with you and Cobras?
My early nickname in life was the skinny worm. With time, that evolved to cobra.
