“I’m stoked to support this student project because they need it … They’re not just making noise and raising awareness, they are out there making a difference.”

Tri-haut pour l’Everest is a student-led project working to provide a solution to the waste problem in the Khumbu region of Nepal.
The Problem ////
Mass tourism and mountaineering expeditions on Mt. Everest and in the region of Khumbu are responsible for heavy pollution. Despite efforts to limit pollution from expeditions and basecamps over the past decade, there remains a lot of waste. We’re talking over 250 tons of waste per year! This waste is currently hauled from higher elevations to lower elevations, where it is stored in open-air dumps, with no sustainable solution for how to deal with it.
The Solution /////
The goal of the Tri-haut pour l’Everest project is to install infrastructure that brings a sustainable solution to the plastic waste problem in the Khumbu region. The multi-year project involves building and installing a pyrolysis system, a shredder, a sheet press and recycling center in Pangboche (one of the closest villages to Everest).
