Toe Yoga

Balance, stability and sure-footedness are absolutely crucial. Practice this simple toe yoga exercise daily to help improve your balance in Nature.

When you’re scrambling up a talus or scree field filled with loose rocks, or portaging an 80 lbs kayak around a class VI rapid on a multiday…balance, stability and sure-footedness are absolutely crucial. Practice this simple toe yoga exercise daily to help improve your balance in Nature.

///// Step 1

Begin barefoot, with both feet on the ground. Slowly lift your big toes up, while keeping the rest of your toes on the ground.

[Pro Tip // If this is hard your first time, try concentrating on doing this with just one foot at a time.]

///// Step 2

Next, keep your big toes on the ground, while lifting the rest of your toes up.

///// Step 3

Once you can do this, simply alternate back and forth between lifting your big toes up, and then lifting the rest of your toes up.

This simple toe exercise may be tough at first. But keep at it! The more you practice, the more connected you will become to the movement and position of your toes. And as it turns out, your toes are designed to provide side-to-side stability to the rest of your body.

Awaken your connection with the natural function of your toes and feel the increased stability in slippery or exposed moments out in Nature.
